Morse Park
Morse Park, spanning nearly 400 acres, stands as the City of Neosho's largest park. Hickory Creek, a designated White Ribbon Trout Stream, meanders through its expanse. Trout enthusiasts can indulge in fishing activities throughout the year, with catch and keep allowed from March 1 to October 31, adhering to standard fishing regulations. The creek is a habitat for both Brown and Rainbow Trout, along with Bass.
Complementing the natural beauty, Morse Park features a 1.73-mile pedestrian and bicycle nature trail following the tranquil course of Hickory Creek. A recent 1,600-foot addition provides an alternative loop route, while ongoing efforts are extending the paved trail to encompass the Neosho National Fish Hatchery.
The park is a recreational haven, hosting attractions such as the Neosho Disc Golf Course, High Ground Bike Preserve, Neosho Skate Park, five baseball/softball fields, five soccer fields, an outdoor basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. Additionally, Hickory Creek RV Park caters to visitors seeking a longer stay, offering convenient parking, pavilions with picnic tables, and other amenities for public use.
History:
Morse Park, encompassing nearly 400 acres, holds the distinction of being the largest park in the City of Neosho. Its name pays homage to Delbert Lewis Morse and his wife Olive Lawrence Morse, who developed the Morse Stock Farm on 94 acres situated east of Hickory Creek, the location where the park stands today. Following Delbert Morse's passing, the park was rented by Walter and Elizabeth Moore from 1934 to 1942. In 1942, the park changed hands to Mike Evans and subsequently found its way to Foster Evans. In a pivotal move, the City of Neosho began leasing the park from Foster Evans in 1961 for a mere $1 and eventually acquired the park outright in the 1960s.
