History:

Benton Park occupies the grounds that once hosted the original Benton School, built in 1898 under the name M.E. Benton School. M.E. Benton, an esteemed attorney in Newton County, also held a notable position in the United States Congress from 1897 to 1905. The landscape underwent a transformation in 1990 when the current Benton School was constructed southeast of its initial site, a location it maintains to this day. Following the demolition of the original school, the space evolved into what is now Benton Park.
